Dr. Valentine Jobst III Educational Fund

To Provide Further Education In The Fields of Vocational/Technical Training

This scholarship was established by Dr. Valentine Jobst III, whose family arrived in Peoria in 1859. His grandfather and father founded and operated the V. Jobst and Sons Construction Company which built many familiar structures around the city. This includes two schools from which Dr. Jobst graduated, Washington School and Peoria High School.

Dr. Jobst graduated with honors from the University of Illinois in 1926. Between 1942 and 1946, he served as a Major in the Army. His professional career was spent as an instructor at the University of Illinois. He retired as a full Professor associated with the Political Science department in 1964. Dr. Jobst died in Champaign, Illinois, in 1993.

Eligibility

In accordance with our agreement, the student must currently reside, and be attending high school in the City of Peoria, Illinois. The award will be given during the student's senior year and will continue during her/his attendance at a vocational technical school (this may include a junior or community college). The student must maintain a scholastic average sufficient to remain in good standing at the school. Student must provide proof of eligible GPA to the Peoria Area Community Foundation each grading period.

Type of Scholarship

A scholarship up to $1500.00 will be awarded on the basis of the applicant's motivation to accomplish her/his education and career goals, potential for scholarship, citizenship, and leadership. Financial need is a consideration only when other factors weigh equally among applicants. The scholarship is renewable up to four years from the date of the award.

Application Procedure

Students can obtain an application form by printing out the form below or by contacting the Peoria Area Community Foundation, (309) 674-98730. The student should complete the application and return it to the Peoria Area Community Foundation no later than April 15th.

Recommendations by one teacher and one other adult are required. Forms for these recommendations are included with the application form. These recommendations are to be completed and mailed to the Foundation office by April 15. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Selection Procedure

The Distribution Committee of the Peoria Area community Foundation will review all applicants. The Peoria Area Community Foundation Board of Directors will approve the recommendations and all applicants will be notifies by mail of the status of their application.

Distribution of Funds

The Peoria Area Community Foundation shall distribute the award directly to the school of the recipients's choice upon receipt from the school that the recipient is enrolled.
